So far in this course, we've studied Arithmancy in a very literal way. We've taken it at face value, using numbers that already exist and examining the effects that these numbers have on the world around them. For this last task, I want to give you a bit of a chance to branch out and get creative with alternate uses of Arithmancy. What, for example, happens when you manipulate a word to get a desired number? Can you affect the traits of a person based on their name and the number it reduces to? Or what about prediction? We've used Arithmancy extensively in an internal manner, and if you did the OWL practical you'll remember using Arithmancy externally, too, but only in the past tense. We reconstructed past events based on the situational numbers we could find, but what if we could tell--or chance--the future based on the numbers we have? Maybe, just maybe, we can!

Option 1: Imagine that you get to add a character to the Harry Potter series. You'll need to name them, sort them, give them a birthday etc. All of these decisions, of course, can be reduced to Arithmetic numbers. Thus, in creating a story arc for these characters within the HP universe, I want you to back up the decisions you make about their character: how does the name you give them, the birthdate you assign them etc. change their outcome in the story? What kind of traits are you hoping to give them, through numbers? Be as creative as you want with this task, there's no wrong or right here, I just want to see how you're able to use Arithmancy in a new way!

Option 2: Predict your mH future using Arithmancy. You can use your username, your house, your graduation year, your starting year etc. There's an abundance of numbers and reduced words that you can use to build your prediction. I want to know where on mH you see yourself in 5 or 10 years, or as far out into the future as you'd like! Tell me about your jobs, about your friends... about possible stints in Azkaban, or pranks gone wrong! Tell me anything you want, its your prediction! I just want to see you using Arithmancy in a real world setting in order to predict events, rather than explaining away and studying old ones!

As always, let me know if you have questions about either assignment, and good luck!
