Welcome back to your Arithmancy OWL! Option 1 will be a traditional lesson / assignment focusing on how the Character, Heart and Social numbers of people influence personality and their ability to interact with others. If you’d prefer to complete a practical, check out Option 2, which focuses on using Arithmancy to interpret events and predict the future!
Before I set you free to work on your assignment, here’s a mini-lesson to build upon what you learned in Term 1’s task. If you need a refresher on the Agrippan Method (or you completed Option 2 in Term 1 and never learned it), you can refer to the chart in Term 1 Option 1 while performing calculations to determine the correct association between letters and their number.
Last term we discussed the meaning of the numbers 1-9 as well as the meaning of the Character, Heart and Social number. In today’s lesson, we’ll be learning to calculate them.
We’ll begin with the Character Number, the most basic of Arithmetic calculations. To find the character number, you first choose any name / place / object you want to analyze. For my example, I’ll be using Harry Potter. Using the Agrippan chart, simply switch out the letters with their corresponding number, putting an addition sign in between each letter. Our calculation would look like this:
HARRY POTTER
8+1+9+9+7+7+6+2+2+5+9 = 65
Because 65 isn’t a single digit number, we know it isn’t usable given the number meanings we learned last class, so we’ll have to add again…
6+5 = 11
… and yet again!
1+1 = 2
Thus, Harry Potter’s Character number is 2. It really is that simple! The Character number uses all letters of a name, and thus, when applied to people it characterizes the entire personality of a person, generalizing their character traits into the “big picture” of the person in question.
Next, lets look at the Heart number. It is a sum of only the vowels of a name, and symbolically it represents the inner feelings of a person such as their fears and desires.
Secondly, we have the Social number. Opposite of the Heart number, it is a sum of all the consonants of a name. It is the opposite of the heart number in its symbolism as well. This shows your outer personality, or the face you choose to show others. It differs from the Character number for this reason- it isn't necessarily your true personality, it is simply the one you choose to put forth.
HOMEWORK: For this assignment, please write an approximately 500 word response in which you complete two tasks; first, pick any number of your choosing and explain the similarities and differences of what it means about a person depending on whether it was their Character, Heart or Social number. The goal here is simply to demonstrate an understanding of the three different numbers, and to try and use the concept in unison with the number theories learned last week. Be as creative as you want, as long as you can logically back it up! Secondly, I want you to choose two “relationships” and analyze what numbers would be compatible in these situations. For example, tell me what personality numbers would make for a strong friend - friend relationship, or sibling - sibling relationship, or parent - child relationship etc. I simply want to see you try to analyze how these numbers interact with one another in regards to what they reveal about personality and what makes personalities compatible or not in an Arithmetic sense. There’s no right or wrong answers here, so it’s all about how well you make your case!
